Welcome to 2018

A few thoughts from Jon Flora, President & CEO

As we set 2017 adrift on an iceberg and welcome 2018, I turn to Mark Twain considered by some to be “the father of American literature.” His writings, now more than century old, remain as relevant today as when he wrote them.

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”

At NACM BCS, we are kicking off 2018 with some fresh approaches to helping our members and customers get ahead in their professional lives. This means new educational opportunities offered through new and existing partnerships.

You will read below about the January 25 online Lunch & Learn created through a new collaboration between The Credit Management Association of (California) and Southwest Business Credit Services (Arizona). You will also see two new conferences – in addition to the regular NACM programs – that you will want to consider in 2018. Each has a certain focus and you can decide if one or all are right for you. Our three organizations are working together on a number of joint programs designed to help you get ahead professionally. Over the course of the next few months, read your monthly eNews to stay abreast of these offerings.

The New Year also brings with it a multitude of new taxes and laws. We have a special section in this month’s eNews to review some of this new legislation and what it means for you and/or your business. I urge you to review the attached articles and encourage you to share with associates who may not be up to date on some of the issues.

Please also take a minute to note that our Business Credit Principles online class will likely return this spring. A number of people are expressing interest and we are excited about bringing it out of hibernation. If you are interested, let us know by dropping a note.

Finally, if your company is doing business in Hawaii or you are planning a vacation and would like to add a day of professional education, the Hawaii Winter Credit Forum is a MUST. Topics include: Career planning, dealing with local taxes, new shipping opportunities to Hawaii, legislative issues in the 50th state, economic forecast for the islands and more. It will be a great day of networking and learning, so register today.

With the advent of 2018, I close with another Mark Twain comment:

“Twenty years from now, you will look back more regretfully upon the things you didn’t do than those you did. So set free the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor.

Dream. Explore. Discover.”

NACM BCS is here to help you cast off to expand your skills and future. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to be part of your exploration and for being a part of our association family.

Here’s to a great 2018,
